You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT OPS) in the Navy Fire and Emergency Services Department of NAVAL AIR WEAPONS STATION CHINA LAKE.

Duties

You will prepare patients for transport to medical facilities. You will direct firefighters during structural, aircraft, and shipboard fire suppression and extinguishing. You will operate motorized firefighting equipment (e.g., pumper, aerial ladder truck) to assist in emergency and rescue operations. You will perform on-scene surveys to implement initial hazardous materials mitigation actions.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • May be required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams (HAZMAT).

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Leading a crew of firefighters in firefighting techniques for fire hazards peculiar to airfields such as aircraft, special weapons, and hazardous materials; 2) Working with firefighting equipment, including fire alarm systems, foam generators, boom and groundsweep nozzles using correct techniques and procedures; 3) Driving/operating a variety of firefighting vehicles, apparatuses, or equipment; and 4) Performing emergency and medical procedures. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: Fire Fighter I & II, Airport Firefighter, Apparatus Driver-Operator for Pumper, Airport Rescue Firefighting (ARFF), Aerial vehicles, HAZMAT Operations, Basic Life Support (NREMT-B certification, and State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
