About the Position: Serves as the Managing Editor of the Medical Journal Branch, Borden Institute, in all matters relating to the editing, clearing, and production of multivolume, quarterly publications located at Fort Sam Houston Texas.
Duties
Responsible for the development and production of the U.S Army Medical Center of Excellence Journal, a quarterly, peer-reviewed, professional medical journal with worldwide distribution.
Plan each issue, including selection of manuscripts, development of articles, organization of the content, and production timeline.
Direct the development and preparation of publications, including writing portions of documents, designing and selecting necessary graphics, and assembling camera ready materials for print contracting purposes.
Plan each quarterly issue of the Journal based on knowledge of approved manuscripts held in queue pending opportunity for publication.
Edits each candidate Journal manuscript, including text, references, and all tables and graphics for organization, accuracy, and internal consistency.
Direct the development of other professional, training, or informational publications and the Medical Soldiers Outlook.
Requirements

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes, in American Medical Association style, receiving, reviewing and editing all portions of manuscripts pending approval and publication; coordinating and advising subject matter expert authors and subject matter expert editors on required changes in content and format; planning all facets of the content of a professional quarterly publication, that includes, budgeting, distribution, advertising, layout; organizing and presenting information to military, civilian and international audiences both within and external to the servicing organizations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
