About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the National Ground Intelligence Center, Mission Operations Directorate, Production Support Division, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
Duties
Serves as a journey level technical editor, independently preparing clear, concise, and technically accurate final products from rough drafts prepared by subject matter experts, for a variety of customers on a wide range of complex subjects.
Possesses a thorough knowledge of the English language and a high degree of competence in writing and editing.
Independently performs a detailed edit of a wide variety of NGIC's complex scientific, technical, and military assessments and studies.
Mentors intelligence analysts in the requirements of NGIC's production process and the capabilities of the Center's production tools, including desktop publishing software, electronic templates, and other related tools.
Combines a detailed knowledge of one or more subject-matter fields within NGIC's area of responsibility and a knowledge of additional subject areas.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance based on an SBI with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI).
- In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- All INSCOM employees may be subject to extended TDY or worldwide deployments during crisis situations to perform mission essential functions as determined by management.
- Temporary Duty (TDY) travel may occasionally be required.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-11).
