This position is located within the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Departmental Administration, Office of Communications, Office of Creative Development, Photography Services. The incumbent provides photography, videography, and visual information services through the USDA Office of Communications.

Duties

Captures, processes, edits digital images (still and video) of official events involving the Secretary of Agriculture as well as other top level officials. Operating and functionally maintaining a variety of digital photographic equipment and photographic accessories, including cameras, lenses, tripods, electronic lighting and light meters, photographic studio systems, reflectors, filters, and props. Uses computers and specialized editing software for postproduction to modify, color correct, and arrange images for publication, printing, reference and/or presentation. Produces images and electronic products covering USDA employees, facilities, policies and programs, agencies and staff offices, and events in all appropriate settings. Performs photographic and videography functions and processes images including sizing, color balancing, optimizing, and formatting. Uses the understanding of the client’s intentions to deviate from the script and take additional field shots that will facilitate editing, capture interesting scenes that were not anticipated, and minimize distracting audio and visual elements. Captures and accurately records information about the work product for historical and archival purposes. Employs creative problem solving skills. Work may require hours outside of normal work schedule for covering events.

Requirements

  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience as defined below. Specialized Experience:GS11: Possess one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09, or its non-Federal equivalent that includes (1) capture, color correction, file preparation, and creation of digital media; and retouching photos and images as needed and (2) utilizing editing software to produce finished images and prints. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
