The incumbent of this position serves as a student trainee under the Pathways Internship Program. This program is designed to provide the student with paid work experience and orient them to the mission of the Department of Justice, Justice Management Division, Human Resources and Administration, and the benefits and conditions of a Federal career. It provides formal periods of work and study while the student is enrolled in school.

As a Student Trainee (Administrative Support), you may be responsible for: Provide administrative support to Human Resources and Administration Interpret and apply federal regulations, manuals, or directions Assist in purchase requisitions and travel requests Serve as timekeeper for Human Resources and Administration office Research Human Resources Recruitment services, tools (i.e. job fairs)

Requirements

  • Under Pathways Internship regulations, you must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program of study at a university, college, or trade school, at the time of application and during your appointment.
  • Under Pathways Internship regulations, throughout the appointment, you must meet the definition of a student.
  • A USA Hire assessment is required. An email will be sent with additional information after you submit your application. You will have 48 hours from the closing date of this announcement to complete the assessment.

Qualifications

This vacancy is open to CURRENT STUDENTS, enrolled in, or accepted for enrollment in, a degree-seeking program at a college, university, vocational school, or other professional certification program, on a basis of at least half-time, as defined by your academic institution. You must continue to be enrolled in the degree-seeking program during your appointment. Upon the completion of the program requirements, you may be eligible for conversion to a term or temporary appointment, pending agency approval. In addition, if you are appointed to a position under this program, you will need to complete a requisite number of work and training hours, based on the agreement you will complete with your hiring office and the agency Pathways program coordinator. In addition to the requirements above, you must also meet the specific qualifications requirements for this announcement and the occupational series and grade of this position as described in the Qualifications section below. To qualify for the position of Student Trainee (Administrative Support) (GS-0399-4/5), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade. To Qualify for the GS-04: General Experience: 1 year of general experience that may include volunteer and intern work, etc. in 1) Customer Service, 2) Clerical, AND 3) Attention to Detail. OR Education: Two year course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages. To Qualify for the GS-05: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Providing customer service to internal or external administrative customers; AND 2) Responding back to emails, phone calls, or inquiries about administrative services OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/14/2023.
