The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Physical Security Specialist, performing Electronic Security System (ESS) functions for the Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS). These duties encompass assisting the Electronic Security System (ESS) Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), intrusion detection certification in support of mission objectives.
Duties
DUTY 1: Ensures compliance with IDS requirements for the protection of installation PL 1 - 4 resources. Provides assistance with reviewing the operational status of sensor subsystems ensuring all testing in accordance with applicable DoD, AF, MAJCOM and local requirements are followed for installed IDS.
DUTY 2: Monitors all sensor systems for functionality. Ensures installation units and agencies test installed IDS components quarterly or as otherwise required.
DUTY 3: Provides training, feedback, and certification standards on installed detection, assessment, and intrusion systems to operating users and owners. Assists with development of training materials for inspection and testing of installed security systems supporting the Protection Level (PL) 1-4 resources and other controlled areas of the installation.
DUTY 4: Ensures compliance with Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) and surveillance requirements for the protection of installation personnel and resources. Provides oversight assistance to the Electronic Security Systems (ESS) Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) by reviewing the operational status of CCTV subsystems and ensuring applicable Department of Defense (DoD), Air Force (AF), MAJCOM and local requirements are followed for installed CCTV.

- Department of Defense Security Physical Security Certification conferral is required within 2 years of the established employee EOD or initial assignment date to this position.
- in accordance with DOD 3305.13-M, DoD Security Accreditation and Certification and AFI 36-2645, Security Professional Certification and Development.
- The actual work performed in this position has been reviewed and determined that it does not meet any of the exemption criteria defined in 5 CFR 551. This position has been designated as nonexempt.
Qualifications
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Security Administration Series,0080, w/ no Individual Occupational Requirements for the series in conjunction with the Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Administrative and Management Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes demonstration of a broad range of security forces security systems, concepts, principles, and practices as well as law enforcement program directives, policies, instructions, specialties, concepts, principles, requirements, technology, and practices to include operations and required standards for physical protective equipment and systems. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

EDUCATION: Applicants must have completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Applicants have that a combination of specialized experience and education as described above must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
Note: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of a broad range of security forces security systems, concepts, principles, and practices as well as law
enforcement program directives, policies, instructions, specialties, concepts, principles, requirements, technology,
and practices.
Knowledge of operations and required standards for physical protective equipment and systems in conjunction
with AF and Security Forces missions, operations, functions, and structure at the unit level to ensure effective
implementation and oversight of program plans and processes.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in support of conducting surveys, assessments,
projects, training, and evaluating results for the completion of organizational objectives and program goals.
Ability to assess and recommend security system, practices and procedures utilized in their DoD agencies, as
well as private industry to ensure current security applications and measures.
Skill in effectively organizing various program activities and tasks, and familiarity with applicable Air Force and
local administrative requirements.
Skill in gathering, organizing, and analyzing facts to identifying changes and trends, devise solutions to
problems, and prepare and present information to leadership.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
