About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at FORT EUSTIS, VA Serves as a Management Support Specialist for the Command Group in the 93D Signal Brigade headquarters.

Duties

Screen calls and greet visitors to the office of the Commander, Deputy Commander, and CSM and ascertain nature of call or business. Serve as office manager and primary administrative person with a staff consisting of both military and civilian personnel. Arrange for conferences and meetings, including such matters as location, dates, attendance list, invitations, and room reservations, and notify attendees of agenda. Provide complete itineraries, points of contact, billeting arrangements, and similar travel information. Review all incoming correspondence, determine proper action, and at times prepare answers before referring to the appropriate staff. Ensure consistency of approach among the staff and that documents are substantively accurate, compatible with policies, procedures, and previous decisions, and that spelling and grammar are correct. Select the most appropriate computer programs to prepare a variety of letters, messages, memoranda, reports, and charts. Assist in gathering articles, photos, and other content for the social media platform from a variety of sources.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • TDY travel may be required up to 5% of the time.

Who May Apply: This position is open to the public. Army CES positions apply Veteran's Preference to preference eligible candidates, as defined by Section 2108 of Title 5 U.S.C., in accordance with the procedures provided in DoD Instruction 1400.25, Volume 3005, "CES Employment and Placement". If you are a veteran claiming veterans' preference, as defined by Section 2108 of Title 5 U.S.C., you must submit documents verifying your eligibility with your application package. This position is in the Technician/Administrative Support Work Category at the Full Performance within the CES Occupational Structure. In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. To qualify based on your experience for the GG-09, your resume must describe one year of specialized experience which includes serving as liaison between visitors and leadership officials; assisting with the management of social media accounts on behalf of the organization; arranging travel plans involving organizational personnel; and reviewing outgoing and incoming correspondence for grammar, spelling, or signatures. OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: office administration, business administration, or communications. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. To qualify based on your experience for the GG-11 your resume must describe one year of specialized experience which includes managing an executives calendar and arranging travel; use advanced office automation systems to enter, delete, modify, and retrieve data from an established database or existing spreadsheet and produces reports; conduct studies of clerical work processes in the organization to identify, analyze, and make changes/recommendations if necessary. OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in office administration, business administration, or communications; OR A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
