About the Position: Serves as a Medical Records Technician (MRT) in a non-teaching hospital, that provides clinical services in over 20 medical specialties at the Army Health Center McDonald. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Student Loan repayment may be authorized. Advance Leave accrual may be authorized.

Duties

As Tumor Registrar, performs a wide variety of technical duties necessary for the development and analysis of diagnostic and therapeutic cancer data. Audits medical records to ensure all diagnoses and procedures are properly documented according to the official ICD-9-CM coding guidelines and DOD specific requirements. Resolves problems or refers back to providers records appearing to have omissions or sequencing questions. Provides assistance to the medical staff by researching reference materials for requested information. Establishes and maintains all registry files IAW the American College of Surgeons for Accreditation of Hospitals. Develops and implements administrative procedures and processes necessary to audit, identify and review diagnosed cases. Establishes and distributes procedures for the receipt and maintenance of records, forms and materials from hospital departments and services.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes includes performing any two or more of the following; gathering and compiling a variety of data in medical records; documenting patient diagnosis and/or procedures, entered in a coding database; and assisting with audits of coded records to provide feedback to providers in a Medical Treatment Facility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07) Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
