About the Position: Located within Kenner Army Medical Clinic. May work at a separate troop clinic or the main clinic within the Hospital. Duty hours M-F 0600-1500 or 0700-1600. May be required to work overtime on weekends as mission dictates. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Receives each patient and his/her medical record. Identifies ocular emergencies and refers to the attending optometrist. Measures the distance and near visual acuities with and without glasses/contacts. Files patient records/prescriptions and eye-wear within the clinic. Trains new contact lens patients on the insertion, removal relocation, and care of hard and soft contact lenses. Assures adequate stocking of supplies in clinic exam/screening rooms.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. A Childcare National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI) is required.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position has been designated as a Testing Designated Position and is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing thereafter.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. A candidate selected to this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to annual seasonal influenza vaccination.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position is inclement weather essential. This means that you must be willing to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and Certifications from the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross within 6 months of hire.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work overtime during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 that includes 1) maintaining electronic health records; and 2) general administrative/clerical duties and 3) Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing.
