About the Position: Position is within the Kenner Army Health Clinic Main Building Department of Orthopedics and Physical Therapy. Work hours M-F 0700-1600.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Greet and logs patients and provides instruction and information on procedures to be performed.
Receive telephone calls and requests for assistance or information from patients, administrative support staff, nurses and physicians.
Take patient vital signs to include blood pressure, pulse/heart rate, respiratory rate and temperature.
Construct and applies a variety of splints and casts using all forms of casting to include thermoplastic and hydroplastic casting materials.
Develop and maintain aseptic techniques where required during cast changes/applications and/or removals.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Physical: This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- Tuberculosis (TB): This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
- Influenza: This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations.
- Hepatitis B: Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. .
- Tier 1: This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Basic Life Support (BLS): This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Incumbent is required to wear a uniform.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes obtaining vital signs, and/or patient history, applying, removing, and or/modifying various types of splints and braces, and assisting physician with examinations, treatments and/or procedures.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
