This position is located within the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, New York and serves as the Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) Database Manager and is responsible for developing and maintaining the MIRECC server.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 4 years). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment. NOTE: This is a part-time position (20 hours per week). The salary listed represents full-time employment and will be pro-rated based on the actual number of hours worked each pay-period. Likewise, benefits and time-off accrual will also be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule. The major duties include but are not limited to: Maintains databases and computer software pertaining to program data, as well as data gathered from studies involving schizophrenia and other related behavioral disorders as well as healthy controls studied at the center; Utilizes in-house software and commercial software (e.g. FSL) for analyzing brain imaging data related to center projects; Assists investigators, fellows, and staff with the use of database information and computer software for analyzing brain imaging data; Takes raw data, performs statistical tests and presents results in formal reports, graphs, charts and/or other reporting aids based on data; Adapts various software applications being used, develop new applications, and evaluates alternative approaches to conduct image analysis; and Performs all other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Part-Time, 20 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, 9:00am to 2:00pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration. The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: "Experience working within a Clinical Research environment." In addition to meeting the Selective Placement Factor, to qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, applicants must meet the following: Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Program Analyst - Database Manager, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes maintaining databases and computer software data pertaining to a medical research program or in the medical science field; utilizing various software programs for gathering and analyzing data (i.e. in-house/commercial software, statistical packages, etc.); and preparing reports, graphs, charts, etc. to present data. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Analysis and Problem SolvingDatabase AdministrationTechnology Application IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work primarily involves sitting but does require lifting of computer elements not weighing over twenty pounds.
