The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the executive chief of travel for the Commander, US Central Command (USCENTCOM) and command group staff.
Duties
Provides authoritative consultation to a wide variety of senior management officials of the Joint Staff, Department of Defense, the White House, and other federal and government agencies in developing the direction to support the total management effort required for the Commander, USCENTCOM's protocol and global travel obligations for all foreign and domestic travel.
Plans, develops, and executes the foreign and domestic protocol programs for the Commander, USCENTCOM.
The incumbent must exercise sound judgment and respond to questions and conflicts that arise enroute during the Commander's travels.
Exercises technical and administrative supervision over the other members of the Commander's travel staff.

- The employees must obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
- Work frequently takes place away from the normal duty station and requires in-depth USCENTCOM and AOR expertise which is critical to the successful completion of the work.
- May travel by military or commercial air to conferences, meetings, and other functions away from the duty site. Overtime is frequently required.
- This position is Emergency- Essential (E-E). The incumbent of this position must meet all requirements of E-E positions and may be required as a condition of employment to take a series of vaccinations (Cond't)

- (Cond't) While deployed to an overseas location, the E-E duties required the incumbent to be issued and carry a firearm; operate a government vehicle during specific authorized situations, and to wear a gas mask and chemical protection gear.(Cond't)
- (Cond't) Incumbent must obtain and maintain firearms qualification. Incumbent is required to wear the approved Department of Defense (DOD) civilian uniform while deployed.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Miscellaneous Administration and Program Series 0301.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes expert knowledge of the principles, methods, practices and techniques of communication that enables the incumbent to function as the technical authority for the USCENTCOM Commander on all foreign and domestic travel, public affairs and associated matters.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Expert knowledge of the unified command structure and mission of U.S. Central Command
Knowledge of foreign relations and protocol procedures in Middle Eastern countries. Knowledge of foreign travel regulations, requirements, and procedures.
Knowledge of U.S. Central Command organizational structure and functions of all subordinate staff offices.
Ability to plan and organize work. Ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures.
Ability to use correspondence rules and regulations to prepare and/or edit written correspondence, ensuring proper use of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Skill in advising others and obtaining cooperation in building team work. Ability to use automation tools and techniques to support office operations. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
