About the Position: The Director Religious Education will be responsible for a comprehensive program for two or more specific faith groups across the Installation to ensure soldiers, reservists, authorized civilians, and family members are afforded religious education programs, which allow them to exercise their religious beliefs regardless of faith group.
Duties
Provide guidance in matters of religious education and youth ministry; administer and coordinate programs.
Assess religious education needs of junior enlisted personnel, young married couples, NCOs, officers, military civilians, family members, DOD contractors, and retirees through use of surveys, questionnaires, and personal community involvement.
Develop installation Religious Education marketing and advertising plan with emphasis on religious education and youth ministry.
Promote Chaplains religious education and youth ministry volunteer recognition program.
Administer all religious education and youth ministry programs providing training and mentoring.
Coordinate annual installation-level training conference for religious education and youth ministry personnel.
Direct, develop, and implement an effective religious education program for a multi-faith military community.
Assess resource needs and deficits to meet religious education programming requirements for the installation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a C-NACI (Child Care Background Checks and Investigation).
- Position may require working nights, holidays, and weekends in support of related mission requirements.

Army employees who currently hold Schedule A Excepted Service Religious positions must submit a copy of their current SF50 (Notification of Personnel Action) that reflects the highest grade held on a permanent basis.
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications (See AR 165-1):
DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS, GS-1701-11:
A Master of Religious Education degree or its equivalent from an accredited graduate school, AND a minimum of 2 years of documented professional experience leading a religious education program.
OR
A Master's Degree in any discipline other than religious education which includes a minimum of 24 documented credits in religious education theory and practice or spiritual formation AND a minimum of 2 years of documented professional religious education experience.
