This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Deputy Commandant for Operations, Assistant Commandant for Intelligence and Criminal Investigation, Office of Intelligence Special Security Management, Washington DC. 

Duties

You will serve as a Coast Guard Security Specialist, assisting in the administration of the CG Intelligence Community (CGIC) Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security program. You will support CG policy, procedures, and directives and related USCG internal security programs; participate in meetings and working groups for discussion of key issues and topics related to the CG SCI security program and executes tasks assigned by agency subject-matter experts, and Headquarters (HQ) Program Managers that affect CG military and civilian personnel, reservists, auxiliary\volunteer members, and contractor personnel. You will also assist in maintaining security databases on multiple networks and gathering and consolidation of security metrics for the entire CGIC.    Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Qualifications

At the GS-5 level - Applicants must possess at least 3 years of general experience (equivalent to GS-4 in the Federal service).  General experience includes:  analyzing problems to identify factors, gathering pertinent data, and recommending solutions; planning and organizing work. OR a full four years of progressive, successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is a prerequisite may be used to meet the qualification requirements for GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university; OR equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education, as described above, and general experience, as described above, may be used to meet the qualification requirements for GS-5 At the GS-7 - Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5 or equivalent) in the Federal service.  Specialized experience includes:  analyzing problems to identify factors, gathering pertinent data, and recommending solutions; planning and organizing work; responding to questions and applying methods, principles, and practices of the security field.   OR applicants may substitute successful completion of one full year of graduate level education which provided the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work. OR combination of successfully completed graduate level education and experience that which meets the total qualification requirement for the GS-07 level. OR Superior Academic Achievement At the GS-9:  Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service.  Specialized experience at this grade level includes: experience conducting research for intelligence information; experience providing administrative support to a security program; experience using automated systems to retrieve data and providing information. OR applicants may substitute successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education or Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B or J.D). OR a combination of appropriate specialized experience (as described above) and graduate education (as described above) that is beyond the first year of progressive graduate study to meet the qualification requirements. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
