About the Position:
This is a faculty position as provided under Title 10 USC 4021. The initial appointment may be up to three years, the first of which may be a trial period. The appointment may be renewed in one-to five-year increments thereafter. Academic rank and salary is based on academic credentials, experience, and professional accomplishments; however, the focus and salary are at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. Full Professor appointments may be available by exception.
Duties
Manage the Army War College Effective Writing Program that encompasses writing instruction and coaching, assessment, curricular support, and faculty development for multiple graduate-level academic and executive development programs.
Design, develop, and teach in-person and online lessons, workshops, courses, and materials to prepare students to communicate at the strategic level in the national security enterprise.
Oversee contracted online writing coach services.
Consult with faculty on designing writing prompts and rubrics for courses in multiple academic and executive development programs.
Develop faculty knowledge and skills in assessing and providing feedback on student writing.
Conduct diagnostic writing assessments.
Identify opportunities to incorporate professional and academic writing across the curriculum.
Engage in internal and external service in support of institutional missions.
Conduct research and scholarship that advances knowledge in fields relevant to the ACL Lab mission and/or Army War College curriculum.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
Qualifications

Define KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Must hold an advanced degree in an appropriate discipline (Writing Studies, English, Communication Studies, Rhetoric, or other relevant humanity/social science).
Must have experience instructing and/or coaching on written communication topics.
Should have experience teaching at the graduate or undergraduate level.
Should have experience with curriculum design and different educational modalities.
Should have a demonstrated ability to manage projects.
Must be adaptable and prepared to work proactively and collegially with an accomplished faculty and mature students functioning at the executive level.
Education
