This is a full performance journeyman level carpenter position which also performs other basic tradesmen skill to assist in work such as building maintenance and roofing. The position is organizationally located within Facilities Management Service located at the Salisbury Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Duties
Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
Performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of various building systems, such as floors, walls, ceilings, roofs, windows, doors, etc. Typical work assignments include the performance of visual inspections or response to work requests to determine the need for, and the performance of repair/modification on a level of difficulty and responsibility of trades such as those described herein.
Performs a full range of Carpentry and roofing duties within patient wards, administrative areas, storage areas, etc.
Incumbent must submit leave requests and receive weekly work assignments via the VISTA Engineering work order system.
Performs the work of a Journeyman Carpenter involved in the maintenance, repair, construction, alteration, and modification of building structures throughout the Medical Center.
Incumbent is responsible for informing supervisor of what supplies are needed and when supply levels are low and orders need to be placed.
Incumbent is responsible for the security of all tools and equipment assigned.
Performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of various building systems, such as floors, walls, ceilings, roofs, windows, doors, etc.
Incumbent uses a variety of hand tools, power tools, and stationary shop tools including hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, tape measure, saws, drills, sanders, utility knives, trowels, table saw, band saw, planer, etc.
Repairs and sets up locks, removes broken keys, etc.
Plans and lays out work, makes assignments, orders necessary materials, and carries out all other normal functions of the position.
Performs other directly related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday; 12:00pm - 10:30pm

Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be able to lift and carry eighty (80) pounds. Must be able to constantly climb ladders, walk, and perform light to moderate bending and stooping. During normal day to day operations, individual will be required to perform simple grasping, fine hand manipulation, reaching above shoulder height.
Incumbent is intermittently exposed to excess humidity, chemicals and solvents, fumes, dust and noise. May perform some duties of position on patient wards, within storage areas, on facility grounds or within sub-basement locations. Individual is exposed to possible infectious materials when working in patient areas. Is subject to cuts, scrapes, bumps, bruises, slips, falls, and other injuries in the performance of required duties. Also exposed to disagreeable odors in the accomplishment of duties.
