About the Position: This position is located at the 88th MDG, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
-Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
-Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.
Duties
Operates large, complex riding lawn mowers and similar types of specialized mowing and snow removal equipment.
Operates various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift, lower, adjust, engage, and disengage components or attached devices when working around trees, trenches, large potholes, slopes, curbs, rocks, and other visible obstacles.
Reviews assigned project or plan. Determines and selects the most appropriate type of equipment to accomplish each phase of the work in the most productive and cost-effective manner.
Completes all aspects of special assignments involving several steps, phases, or detailed procedures (e.g., preparing ground, laying sod, planting flowers or shrubs, and using simple drawings to establish a planting pattern and/or design).
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Laborer ~ without more than normal supervision. Landscaping activities including operating riding lawn mowers and various snow equipment; AND operating controls and levers to maneuver equipment; AND selecting appropriate equipment for assigned work; AND identifying malfunctioning equipment; AND using detailed procedures to complete work assignments. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Efforts- Work requires considerable standing, walking, bending, stooping and other awkward and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, moves and carries items up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and carries heavier items. Frequently pushes heavy equipment and other material.
Working Conditions - Works outside, exposed to hot and cold temperatures, bad weather, dirt, drafts, noise, grease and fumes. Subject to minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, bruises, strains, insect bites and stings and occasionally more serious injuries such as broken bones and severe cuts from flying debris or collisions. As required, uses safety equipment and clothing such as ear protectors, safety glasses and shoes.
