The primary purpose of this position is To perform manual labor tasks involving the use of common hand tools and simple power equipment which require little or no special skill, experience, or training and may involve a number of successive steps or processes.

Duties

1. Loads, unloads, moves, and stacks material such as heavy boxes and bulky items by hand, hand trucks, or dollies. 2. Operates hand tools and simple power equipment 3. Performs a variety of manual tasks such as moving, arranging, collecting, and cleaning equipment and materials. 4. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

  • The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Exerts moderately heavy physical effort, occasionally lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds (about 23 kilograms);
  • frequently lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects up to 40 pounds (18 kilograms); and frequently pushing heavy objects such as furniture on dollies and loaded carts.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance
  • The actual work performed in this position has been reviewed and determined that it does not meet any of the exemption criteria defined in 5 CFR 551. This position has been designated as nonexempt
  • Work may occasionally require an uncommon tour of duty and last minute changes to the work schedule to meet program needs.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3500 General Services And Support Work Family . Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints) Ability To Use and Maintain tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety This job announcement will be used to gather applications that may or may not result in a referral or selection PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
