This position is located in the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of Management (OM), Information Technology (IT) Division. The IT Division is responsible for overall planning, development, and management of the OIG Enterprise IT infrastructure, security programs and support to the end-user community.
Duties
The incumbent serves as a hands-on IT Cybersecurity Analyst, responsible for network monitoring and analysis to prevent and detect security incidents, monitor network traffic and analyze records like authentication logs to identify and investigate anomalies; install and configure security software like firewalls, and operate and maintain the OIG's Continuous Diagnostic & Mitigation (CDM) tool suite.
Other duties include:
Ensures the integrity and protection of networks, systems, and applications by technical enforcement of organizational security policies, through monitoring of vulnerability scan results, and other indications of compromise. Monitors, triages, and mitigates vulnerabilities, attempted unauthorized data and system access violations, and investigates data security violations.
Reviews and audits security logs on all platforms to ensure network and data integrity and confidentiality. Analyzes this information for actual or potential weaknesses, making recommendations to management. Tests new systems, upgrades, and programs to independently verify that security features are functioning as intended.
Performs systems audit/administration work to ensure all systems are properly configured and operating at the latest patch levels. Participates in the development of maintenance schedules and policies to maintain the optimal operation and security of the systems.
Qualifications
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Experience providing support in relation to cybersecurity compliance, risk, governance, security architecture, computer incident response or security operations; AND
- Experience discovering and deploying new theories, concepts, principles, standards, and method to secure the OT environment from cyber threats; AND
- Leading projects to enhance capabilities and reducing threats against an organization's computer and network infrastructure.
In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. 1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
