This position is located within the Economic Research Service (ERS), Market and Trade Economics Division (MTED) Animal Products and Cost Production Branch. Applicants will be able to choose a location in either Washington, D.C. or Kansas City, MO.
In this position, you will be responsible for outlook analysis of markets for poultry and eggs, but work may also include analysis of other animal product markets.
Duties
Studies factors affecting supply, demand, and trade primary for poultry and egg markets and develops an understanding of behavioral, market structure, and policy factors affecting them.
Provides or contributes written reports on analysis of supply, demand, trade, and price developments for poultry and egg markets.
Assembles and manages appropriate data, developing tables, charts and graphics.
Participates in and contributes to USDA Interagency Commodity Estimates Committee for Meat and Poultry, which is composed of representatives from key USDA agencies that produce the monthly World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Basic Requirements:
Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
AND
In addition to the basic requirements above, all applicants must also meet the following minimum qualification requirements:
GS-11
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-11 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-09 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience utilizing software to conduct statistic or economic analysis; compiling or maintaining datasets used for market analysis; and assisting with economic research, information, and market outlook analysis.
OR
Education: Successful completion of 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; if related. Related degrees may include: economics, agriculture, statistics, and mathematics.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.
GS-12
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience utilizing software to conduct statistic or economic analysis; compiling or maintaining datasets used for market analysis; assisting with economic research, information, and market outlook analysis; and assisting with developing or delivering presentations or publications on data analysis.
GS-13
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-13 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-12 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience utilizing software to conduct statistic or economic analysis; compiling or maintaining datasets used for market analysis; and providing leadership in research projects, presentations, or publications.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
