This position is located in the Women's Bureau (WB), Office of Resource Management and Administration (ORMA) and requires a close and confidential working relationship with the Administrative Officer and Deputy Director as well as the responsibility and oversight of administrative/operational/customer service functions provided to both National and Regional staffs.
Duties
This is a developmental position. The duties described below are similar to those of the full performance level but will be performed under closer than normal supervision. As the employee progresses, the assignments will become more difficult and complex in preparation to successfully perform the duties at the next grade level. The career ladder progression for this position is GS-11/12.
As a Staff Assistant, you will perform the following duties which are not all-inclusive:
Updates and maintains a variety of directories, tracking for a variety of projects and project deadlines.
Assists with the administrative/operations/customer service functions daily for the immediate office.
Participates in studies of administrative/operations/customer service work processes to help identify, analyze, and recommend solutions to problems in the procedures, processes, and workload distribution.
Reviews and recommends changes and guidance with management input on techniques to improve the overall administrative services and functions.
Assists with time and attendance and travel document preparation.
Establishes and maintains appropriate document control systems with correspondence of high-level government officials and stakeholders.
Responds to inquiries brought to the Administrative Officer and Deputy Director's attention by national staff, other WB and Department of Labor officials, state and local governments, other federal agencies, and congressional staff.
Composes correspondence and a variety of other documents to be used for presentations and meetings.
Arranges meetings and conferences for the Administrative Officer and Deputy Director. Prepares agendas and assists with emergency travel arrangements in support of management.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old and a U.S. Citizen.
- Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.
- Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.

To qualify for Staff Assistant, you must meet the specialized experience and/or education, as described below:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-09, in the Federal Service, which includes:
Demonstrated use of oral and written communication skills to prepare correspondence and communicate with senior level management; and
Tracking multiple administrative projects and assignments; and
Solving or recommending solutions to problems/issues in the areas of administration and management.
Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience. Education must be in a related field of study.
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
If you wish to use your education as a basis for meeting the specialized experience, you must submit academic transcripts from an accredited institution demonstrating that you meet the qualifying education. If you do not submit sufficient academic documentation necessary to demonstrate that you meet the minimum qualification requirements based on education, your application will be deemed incomplete, and you will receive no further consideration for this vacancy.
