This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The incumbent will serve a Maintenance Worker (Self Help) at the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) in Fort Riley, KS.
Duties
Perform a variety of tasks regarding customer support for the Self-Help and Energy Awareness program.
Conduct self-help training sessions designed to improve the skills of military personnel.
Serve as a liaison between the Public Works Operation and Maintenance Service Center and unit leadership personnel regarding matters pertaining to self-help program.
Conduct building inspections ensuring work performed is in compliance with regulations.
Perform maintenance tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work in order to demonstrate various techniques to repair items.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A physical exam is required. The employee uses light to medium physical effort in performing work. The work requires some standing, stooping, walking, and lifting of items weighing up to 40 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE WORKER (SELF HELP) ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common scenarios that utilize automated software for tracking repairs and maintenance facilities; and instructing other personnel to complete maintenance jobs. To possess a variety of trades and crafts such as plumbing, masonry work, carpentry, painting, and electrical work. Working under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort-The employee uses light to medium physical effort in performing work. The work requires some standing, stooping, walking, and lifting of items weighing up to 40 pounds.
Working Conditions-The work is primarily performed indoors in a classroom environment.
