This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located at the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) in Fort Riley, Kansas.
Duties
Perform a variety of maintenance work for facilities such as buildings, structures, grounds, and related fixtures and utilities.
Responsible for handling of specific hazardous wastes generated by unit, activity, or facility.
Construct, alter, or repair such items as framework, doors and jams, finished paneling, windows, furniture, trusses, or beams.
Mix, apply, and finish plaster surfaces in the construction or repair of walls and ceilings.
Repair electrical wiring controls, equipment, switches, and relays.
Repair and/or install roofing and sheet metal of buildings and structures.
Perform routine maintenance of mechanical locking devices.
Paint interior and exterior of buildings.
Lay floor tile, refinish hardwood floors, and install or replace carpets.
Install glass or plexiglass in wood, steel, or aluminum sash windows and doors.
Repair and replace traps, defective faucets and flushometers, sections of defective tile or pipe(s), and leaky drains.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Employee must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Physical Exam Required. The employee makes repairs from ladders, scaffolding, platforms and other hard-to- reach places.
- Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 100 pounds.
- Employee works inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather and in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, greasy, hot, wet, or cold.
- May work on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet, or in close quarters such as manholes.
- Subject to electric shock, cuts and bruises. Subject to possible burns, cuts, and injury from falls.
- Incumbent must be able receive and maintain Hepatitis A and B vaccinations as directed by AR 40-562,
Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision.
The ability to perform common duties of installing, maintaining, and repairing of commercial and industrial plumbing systems contained in commercial facilities, buildings and infrastructures. Use carpentry skills related to repairing, constructing, remodeling, and maintaining commercial facilities, buildings, and infrastructure; and installing repairing, and maintenance of electrical systems and parts.
Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
