Duties
You will conduct immediate incident surveys to identify materials involved in HAZMAT emergencies, determine specific hazardous materials that have been released, analyze surrounding conditions to identify materials, and predict behavior of materials.
You will assist in the development of special protective services for structures imposing extreme hazards.
You will manage respiratory and cardiac emergencies to include performing CPR and AED usage.
You will assist EMTs, AEMTs, or Paramedics in other emergency life support situations as necessary.
You will operate pumps, foam generators, boom, and ground sweep nozzles as well as other similar equipment within firefighting vehicles.
Requirements

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Firefighter I and HAZMAT - Awareness certification.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
Qualifications
GS-05:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing first aid procedures and CPR; 2) Performing firefighting duties which demonstrate knowledge of equipment and firefighting techniques; 3) Performing various developemental assignments under direct supervision successfully; 4) Demonstrating basic knowledge of firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operations, fire extinguishing equipment operations, etc.); and 5) Assisting with the control of HAZMAT incidents while implimenting training in fire protection and prevention.
Required Certifications: Firefighter I, HAZMAT - Awareness, and EMS First Responder.
GS-04:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a volunteer or member of a fire department or brigade; 2) Assisting with rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Operating fire communications equipment; and 5) Assisting with the control of HAZMAT incidents while implimenting training in fire protection and prevention.
Required Certifications to obtain: Firefighter I and HAZMAT - Awareness.

Education

GS-05:
4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree.
GS-04:
2 years above high school with related course work.
