As a Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist, you will develop and lead communications activities that promote, enhance, and protect WAPA's mission accomplishment and reputation. You will also develop, integrate, and implement a broad range of communications activities aligned with the strategic direction and positioning of WAPA and its leadership team.
This is not a remote position. The selectee will be required to be physically present at the Lakewood, CO duty location.
Duties
WAPA is seeking a collaborative, strategic leader to lead WAPA's multi-faceted communications program. Communication activities include media relations, social media, website management, internal communications, video production, publications and graphics, as well as occasional event management. In addition to the qualities listed above, the successful candidate will be an excellent communicator (written AND oral) and results driven. Experience in the electric utility industry is a bonus. Specific roles include but are not limited to:
Leads a team of Federal employees and contractors to successfully deliver WAPA's multi-faceted communications program.
Develops and implements strategic communications to advance WAPA's mission.
Serves as the primary communications advisor to WAPA's Administrator and CEO and Senior Executive Team.
Leads WAPA's crisis communications program and serves as primary spokesperson during times of crisis.
Oversees implementation of day-to-day communications activities such as aligned leadership messaging, social media and traditional media, internal communications, video production, and graphics and publications.
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level [GS-13] in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience with 3 of the 5 activities listed below:
Developing and implementing crisis communications strategies for public or stakeholder communications.
Developing and implementing communications strategies to educate the public or stakeholders on key organizational strategies.
Conducting the full realm of Media Relations activities to include building relationships with media members; researching, writing and editing press releases; serving as a spokesperson; and preparing staff for interviews.
Managing web and digital content for an organization, to include social media, to advance key messages.
Writing speeches and developing associated visual data products for executives to deliver to stakeholders at high-profile events, such as Congressional Testimony, customer meetings; conference speeches; employee meetings.
"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
