You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER in the FIRE, RESCUE & EMERGENCY SERV. BRANCH of MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CTR. Duties

You will lead and direct the operation, efficiency of the crew in all aspects of firefighting, emergency medical, hazardous materials, urban search and rescue, fire prevention and communications. You will direct crews on daily basis in the maintenance of all firefighting, medical, hazardous materials, and communications equipment, insuring proper condition and serviceability: initiates action to correct discrepancies. You will participate in public education activities as required, to carry out evacuation drills, resets local alarm and sprinkler systems, inspects major occupancies during peak operating hours making sure fire regulations are being adhered to. You will respond to structure fires, wildland fires and medical emergencies. You will respond to downed aircraft emergencies, hazardous materials incidents and technical search and rescue emergencies.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to work 72-hour workweek and subject to recall during duty hours.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to work an uncommon tour of duty (may include weekend, nights, overtime, or holidays) and rotating shift work.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You are required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/Policies
  • You will be required to participate in the Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final CONFIDENTIAL security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: leading and directing day to day emergency and non-emergency responsibilities, tasks, and duties of the workforce; AND proficient in fighting fires of structural, aircraft, wildland, perform emergency medical, hazardous materials, urban search and rescue, emergency services communications, and fire prevention activities. Education

Additional Conditions of Employment:
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You are required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/Policies.
  • You will be required to participate in the Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program.
  • You will be required to maintain compliance with NFPA 1582 (Fire Fighter Physical Medical Evaluations), NFPA 1583 (Fire Fighter Fitness Program Requirements.
  • You will be required to participate in the mandatory F&ESD Physical Fitness Program to maintain a level and degree of fitness needed to perform all duties.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain current FIREFIGHTER certifications: Hazardous Material Awareness, Hazardous Material Operations, and Hazardous Materials Technician.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain certification a FIREFIGHTER 1 by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain current FIREFIGHTER certifications: Fire Officer 1, Fire Inspector 1, and Fire Instructor 1, by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) for structural apparatus.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator's Identification card.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • You must possess a current National Registry or State Certification as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
  • You may be required to serve in the capacity of Lead Firefighter (Engine Captain), in the absence of a regularly assigned Lead Firefighter.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain current FIREFIGHTER certifications: Driver Operator Pumper and Aerial.
  • You must be able to obtain Inland County Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) status within 60 days of hire.
  • You may be required to work in high elevations and/or below ground in confined work spaces.
  • You will be required to work hours and conditions under close contact with supervisors for long periods of time.
  • You will be subject to adverse weather and/or harsh working conditions; burns, smoke inhalation, noxious fumes, falling materials, and explosions.
