You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER in the SECURITY DEPARTMENT in the STRUCTURAL FIRE PROCTECION, DIVISION of MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR.

Duties

You will review fire prevention program inspections to verify inspections are completed. You will analyze the structural condition of a building to determine firefighting equipment and apparatus required to fight fire. You will determine measures to reduce or eliminate the potential for fire or explosion. You will prepare inspection reports to document findings of fire safety deficiencies.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license and obtain a U.S. Government Operator’s Permit within 30 days after appointment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • Must obtain and maintain Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVOC) within 60 days after appointment.
  • The incumbent may be required to work on fire assignments for extended periods of time (up to 14 days)

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector 1)Leading a crew of firefighters in activities of firefighting, rescues, administering emergency medical care, and preventing loss of life and property; 2) Training firefighting crews during emergency and non-emergency operations; 3) Directing and participating in testing and maintenance of firefighting equipment and tools; and 4) Monitoring and controlling the release of hazardous materials with team members to include performing decontamination procedures. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), CPR, Hazardous Materials Technician, and HAZMAT Operations. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached a copy of your transcript or certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
