The Motor Vehicle Operator Work Leader, WL-5703-08 is stationed at the Lake City campus within the North Florida South Georgia Veterans Healthcare System (NF/SGVHS) and will provide patient transportation logistical guidance to the NF/SGVHS Motor Vehicle Operators (MVO) located throughout the catchment area. Incumbent has the responsibility for leading a team of transportation MVOs within the NF/SGVHS multi-state service area consisting of 40 counties in Florida and 10 counties in Georgia.
Duties
The Motor Vehicle Operator Work Leader, WL-5703-08 is technically and administratively responsible to lead non-supervisory positions. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Evaluates motor vehicle operator's daily performance and quality of work in collaboration with the supervisor.
Providing an overview to new motor vehicle operators on procedures for Patient Transportation Operations pick-up and drop-off.
Work with Transportation Assistants to schedule pick-ups and ensure trips are assigned daily.
Coordinates overtime/comp time employees to ensure patient appointments/discharges are supported in a timely manner.
Knowledgeable of the operation and maintenance of hydraulic lift on wheelchairs vans/buses for transporting wheelchair and stretcher patients.
Assists MVOs with accident reports or any other incidents that may occur during operation of government vehicle.
Passes on instructions received from supervisor and starts work (i.e., by assigning immediate tasks to individual members of the team).
Ensures that needed materials, tools and supplies are available.
Checks work in progress and upon completion to see if supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met.
Assures compliance with safety and housekeeping rules.
Coordinates workload of MVOs to ensure they maintain safety of passengers and observe the rules and traffic regulations.
Required to maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement. Must be qualified on air brake systems.
Performing operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels, replacing air filters and interior lights, checking tire pressures and hose connections, and washing vehicles.
Operate multiple types of vehicles/trailers/equipment such as golf cart delivery, lift gate operations, sedan, truck, bus, patient transport van, laundry delivery and food delivery box trucks.
Ensure NF/SGVHS vehicle fleet is mission ready for emergency operations such as hurricane support.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The physical effort may include but not limited to: - Physical exertion related to such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects of varying weights, sizes, and shapes weighing 50 or more pounds. - Physical effort related to movements such as standing, walking, turning, stooping, running, climbing, crawling, and bending. - The employee exerts moderate physical effort in operating, turning, backing, and controlling vehicles which carry heavy loads and many people. - Incumbent may assist on an infrequent basis, medical personnel, or staff in the transfer of stretcher patients to and from beds and stretchers, and the loading and unloading of patients to and from stretcher vans. - Incumbent may assist in loading and unloading laundry carts and food carts from box trucks. - Tasks often require physical exertion such as pulling, pushing, walking, turning, stooping, bending, sitting for long durations etc. - Incumbent may load golf carts on trailers which requires bending, walking on a trailer, lifting tie down equipment.
