The Motor Vehicle Operator is assigned to the Transportation Section of Facilities Management Service (FMS), at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System (NF/SGVHS). This position will provide service to: Two (2) Medical Centers, Three (3) Large Ambulatory Healthcare OPC's located in Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and The Villages, FL and Nine (9) CBOC's located in Ocala, Middleburg, St. Augustine, Palatka, Perry, Marianna, FL and Valdosta, Waycross, and St. Mary's, GA.
Duties
Incumbent must possess a State Operator's Permit and at least a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsements.
It is the incumbent's responsibility to assist Transportation Operations Management/Transportation Assistants effectively and efficiently by preforming the following duties:
Operates semi-tractor with trailer, box reefer truck for food delivery, passenger buses, and ambulances/patient transport vehicles for unscheduled and scheduled trips.
Connecting and disconnecting the tractor to the trailer using the turntable (5th wheel).
Checking and servicing truck/trailer before operation including all lights, tires, brakes, and other safety and breakdown equipment.
Perform daily routine maintenance checks of vehicle assigned to the Motor Vehicle Operator on that day.
Prepares and processes all necessary paperwork.
Ensures all cargo tie down/securing equipment is in proper working condition.
Accommodates various changes to the transportation schedule as daily needs of the facility arise.
Reports directly to the MVO Supervisor or Fleet Management of any mechanical issues found with motor vehicle assigned that day.
Transport passengers via shuttle bus and patient transport vehicles when assigned.
Transportation of food via box reefer truck from Lake City VA to the Gainesville VA when assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM 30 day Training period in Gainesville, FL

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent may exert moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing on tractors to hook up service lines, lower landing gears, and in climbing on the trailer to load or tie down cargo. Incumbent must handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally more with or without assistance. Incumbent may assist on an infrequent basis, medical personnel, or staff in the transfer of stretcher patients to and from beds and stretchers, and the loading and unloading of patients to and from stretcher vans. Tasks often require physical exertion such as walking, turning, stooping, bending, etc. Incumbent may have to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) while performing patient transportation operations duties.
