This position is located in the Air Traffic Organization (ATO), Safety and Technical Training, Safety Directorate, Safety Services Group (AJI-1500). This Group is responsible for analyzing reports and data to formulate corrective actions for continuous improvement and serves as a collaborative liaison between different lines of businesses.

Duties

As an Airway Transportation Systems Specialist, he/she applies experience and expert technical knowledge of National Airspace System (NAS) technical systems, operations and procedures used for airport and air traffic control and/or power, communication, surveillance, automation and/or other types of air navigation services to develop policies, processes and training that identify and mitigate operational non-compliance, safety risks, and fatigue issues. He/she serves as a senior project manager for large, challenging work activities to develop new concepts, systems, or innovative approaches. He/she develops solutions to resolve unprecedented situations that adversely affect crucial components of the NAS by modifying existing or emerging technologies. He/she identifies and resolves highly complex problems or issues that often overlap programs in other lines of business and that affect strategic Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) programs. This work directly supports the objectives of the ATO the FAA and the safe and continued operation of the NAS.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Qualifications

Candidates must have one year (52 weeks) of SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (FV-I or FG/GS-13) that is typically related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is defined as: Experience installing and maintaining aviation electronic equipment such as radars, communication and weather system equipment in a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) terminal or en route air traffic facilities.Experience analyzing and evaluating data to identify risks and to provide recommendations to mitigate risks.You should include relevant examples of the specialized experience in your work history.
