Duties

This position is located in the Protective Operations Unit (POU), Correctional Services Branch, Correctional Programs Division, Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Implements protective operations and threat mitigation for the BOP Director. Required to carry a firearm and provide close physical protection for the Director and other designees. Participates in the organization and retention of work-related documents; maintains an understanding of relevant threat management data bases; pursues/schedules training opportunities that provide updated tactics, trends, and operational procedures in the field of threat/protective investigations and protective operations. Analyzes and communicates relevant protective operations, threat assessment factors and applies subject matter expertise to the protective detail operations. Ensures safe surroundings, which involves consistent investigation and are obligated to apprehend suspicious individuals should they endanger the Director or others designated for protection.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience proving all aspects of personnel, communications security and physical security. Experience with assisting with the operating, directing, and controlling law enforcement and physical security activities. Experience assessing situations and determining appropriate responses. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. **Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.**
