About the Position: The Supervisory Interdisciplinary position may be filled under any of the listed Job Family Series. Chief Flood and Storm Protection Division with Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory.
Duties
Responsible for executing the research and development mission of the Flood and Storm Protection Division, including ensuring technical quality of the research.
Working within time and budget constraints and providing the short- and long-term resources for research executed in the Division.
Conduct research in the areas of computational hydrologic systems, watershed hydraulics and sedimentation, a wide variety of hydraulic structures concerning water quality issues.
Exercises the highest level of technical review within the ERDC and the Corps of Engineers.
Interpretation and application of research results, demonstrating a high level of technical and professional competence to continually develop and execute new technology research.
Approves multi-year and longer-range work plans developed by the subordinate supervisors and manages the overall work for achievement of the goals and objectives.
Responsible for obtaining funding and assuring satisfaction of project or program requirements to sponsoring officials.
Plans and participates in recruitment activities to include interviewing and selecting candidates for employment.
Assists employees in preparing career plans; determines and provides necessary on- and/or off-the-job training; establishes performance requirements; and makes career and other performance appraisals
Responsible for overall direction of project undertakings from initial to final stages.

This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB-05 grade level (equivalent to GS-15). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, an employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above (fully successful) in order to be selected for promotion.

In addition to meeting the above basic education requirements, to qualify for this position you must also meet the below specialized experience:
Specialized Experience: To qualify for DB-05 level, applicants must possess one year specialized experience equivalent to the DB-04 (GS-14) grade level which includes conducting or directing research and development that combines elements of engineering, coastal and hydraulics projects.to ensure pert technical methods across many disciplines (civil engineering, hydraulic engineering, oceanography, ocean engineering, naval architecture, marine engineering, fluvial geomorphology etc.) to resolve challenging problem sets; demonstrated skill in conducting high quality, broad-based research and development and reimbursable work evidenced by successful projects, authorship of professional journals, technical reports or participation in professional societies at a national level; and experience in addressing business requirements, developing funding requirements and budget estimates.
