This position is located within the VA Central Iowa Healthcare System in the Business Office, Eligibility/Intake Section, under the direct supervision of the Eligibility Supervisor. The purpose of the position is to serve as a Program Assistant (PSA), also known as Certified Health Benefits Advisor, to the Business Office.
Duties
Major duties listed but not limited to:
Serve as expert benefit advisor to Business Office Leadership and support the management information components of all health eligibility related programs
Review the Incomplete Encounter Management Module (IEMM) report in order to clean up any discrepancies in administrative data that would prevent the transmission of encounters
Apply an extensive body of rules and regulations relative to Veteran's eligibility for VA healthcare benefits, assisting families with a Veteran's death, burial and explanation of death benefits
Participate in a complex blend of computing technology, medical information, communication skills and leadership qualities in a rapidly changing environment
Identify and collate health insurance information from all applicants
Prepare notification letters to new Veterans who are determined to be ineligible along with their appeal rights
Manage the New Enrollment Appointment Request (NEAR) list and electronic wait list to verify and validate accuracy and resolve issues
Enroll Veterans in the MyHealtheVet web-based program
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm (work hours may be further discussed during the interview)

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: enter data, demographics, insurance and other information into computer applications; review reports, records and statistical computations for accuracy; provide administrative support and collaborate with different departments and service lines; schedule and coordinate appointments for diagnostic testing and consultative appointments; hold presentations on benefits and enrollment seminars; interpret computer generated reports and understand data processing capabilities; utilize office automation programs such as MS Office, excel, MS Outlooks, etc.; and prepare written correspondence for a broad spectrum of complex inquiries from internal and external customers.
