The position is located at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System (VACIHCS) in Des Moines, Iowa under Associate Chief of Staff for Education Integrated Clinical Community (ICC). This position is dedicated to serving as the Specialist for the VISN 23 RN Transition-to- Practice (RNTPP) Residency Program and as the Specialist for the Nursing Health Profession Trainee Programs at VACIHCS.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: The position is located at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System (VACIHCS) in Des Moines, Iowa under Associate Chief of Staff for Education Integrated Clinical Community (ICC). 50% of this position will work with the VISN 23 RN Transition to-Practice (RNTPP) Residency Program. The other 50% of the position will work for VA Central Iowa and will work with the Nursing Health Profession Trainee Programs. VISN 23 RNTTP Residency Program Assistant Duties: Applies administrative polices, develops, and maintains various systems, and tracks various aspects of the program's status, including compliance with policies (local, VISN, and VHA) and mandatory requirements. Advises senior leadership and site directors on issues using oral and written communication including MS Teams, email, presentations, and written reports. Will develop, modify, analyze, and evaluate the procedures whereby residents, trainees, and the residency programs are administered. Composes correspondence and reports and maintains contact, both orally and in writing. Responsible for gathering data and preparing reports for RNTTP programs. The incumbent prepares presentations, memoranda, agendas, meeting minutes, schedules, charts, data, contracts, and program materials. Responsible for setting up interviews, onboarding, orientation for RNTTP programs. Responsible for administering program reviews and respective audits, communicating the results to leadership. Provides support in the planning, development, and evaluations of education programs/projects/activities designed to achieve specific educational goals and objectives that are set by manager. Incumbent identifies and determines training priorities, conducts educational surveys, and provides training. Communicates with 8 VA Hospital RNTTP Residency Program Directors to standardize the RNTTP program. Knowledgeable in Office of Personnel Management, the VHA Office of Nursing Service (ONS), the Collegiate Commission on Nursing Education (CCNE) Serves as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for various contracts. Nursing Health Profession Trainee Assistant Duties: Serves as the day-to-day point of contact for Nursing Health Profession trainees and affiliate program coordinators. Coordinates schedules, safety, training, orientation, and regulatory standards. Responsible for requesting computer access, reviewing TMS accounts, and managing trainee badges. Will assist with program letters of agreements (PLAs), Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs), and Office of Academic Affiliation Policy Waiver Process. Assists with Onboarding, Orientation, Off Boarding, and Credentialing for all nursing trainees within the Health Profession Education Office. Uses trainee satisfaction survey results to make recommendations for improvement in the clinical learning environment and training programs. Assist Health Profession Education Office with scheduling meetings, travel documents, timekeeping, and records management. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-8. At the GS-7 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-8. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: GS-07 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing various administrative duties within a healthcare setting (i.e., timekeeping, taking minutes, scheduling orientation, and managing calls); preparing various correspondence, such as responses, form letters, and appeal documents; utilizing various software systems to collect and analyze data in support of program operations; and coordinating schedules. GS-08 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing various administrative duties within a healthcare setting (i.e., timekeeping, taking minutes, scheduling orientation, and managing calls); preparing various correspondence, such as responses, form letters, and appeal documents; utilizing various software systems to collect and analyze data in support of program operations; coordinating schedules; verifies credentials to maintain compliance; and develops internal standard operating procedures.
