About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio. The nearby lakes, Belton and Stillhouse, offer year round outdoor recreation activities.

Duties

Prioritize all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls. Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of 911 emergency calls. Responsible for caller interrogation to determine the problem and the nature of the call. Retrieve statistical information from fire incident reporting system(s) to generate reports. Operate Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) system. Liaison with other agencies to coordinate emergency and routine response.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and retain a current certification for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain certification Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System certification, and retain a current certification for the duration of employment.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Telecommunication II certification, continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain DoD Hazardous Materials Awareness certification, and retain a current certification for the duration of employment.
  • The incumbent is responsible for attaining Continuing Dispatch Education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally and pass in accordance with predetermined course requirements.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and National Crime Information (NCIC) training; and pass the course(s) with pre-determined requirements set by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain/maintain access to criminal justice information systems.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
  • This position is subject to emergency recall to duty.
  • This position is subject to rotating shifts where the incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
