This position serves as a Materials Handler, Supervisor supervising the Mailroom and Reproduction sections of Material Management, Logistics Management Service.
Duties
The Materials Handler, Supervisor is responsible for the overall directing, of the Mailroom and Reproduction operations for the entire VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS).
The Major duties and responsibilities include:
Determines the work-flow for timely performance of assignments
Oversees all aspects of automated packaging systems for proper mail processing and delivery
Schedules and coordinates leave for employees to ensure optimal staffing levels.
Provides needed materials, equipment, tools, protective equipment and clothing to employees for mail room maintenance.
Supervises reproduction services in order to provide cost savings
Ensures continued use and operations on all mail metering and reproduction machines
Certifies all employees can operate mail automation equipment guaranteeing the mission is not impacted during staffing shortages
Plans and reviews priorities
Spot checks work in progress and when finished
Identifies resource needs to overcome obstacles
Tracks work assignments and determines changes, delays or other unanticipated issues
Maintains appropriate documentation for tracking and reporting on work assignments
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Material Handler Supervisor are often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items that weigh up to 40lbs. heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Materials Handlers are regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasion, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. When working hazardous materials areas, they may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toes shoes, rubber gloves, marks, and rubber aprons.
