About the Position: This position is located with the HQDA US Army Inspector General Agency, Analysis and Information Follow-up Division, Washington, DC.
Duties
Facilitate collaborative team editing events with subject matter experts (SMEs) to rapidly draft reports, documents, and correspondence.
Perform line editing reviews and/or proofreads a variety of draft or final reports, and correspondence prepared by SMEs with a wide variance in writing styles.
Change and/or rewrite reports and correspondence paragraphs for organization, balance, style, proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, format, reading grade level, content, accuracy, inconsistent statements, and passive writing.
Ensure reports and correspondence follow policies, and formats outlined in Army Regulation 25-50 (Preparing and Managing Correspondence) and consider the guidance contained in the U.S. Government Printing Office Style Manual.
Prepare and/or correct report and correspondence indexes, tables of content, glossaries, lists of illustrations, charts, pictures, and examples for reports and documents.
Use common desktop applications to create/refine graphics and illustrations to be added reports and correspondence and publications.
Author (write) reports, booklets, and correspondence for Army-wide distribution.
Plan and execute public affairs activities including photography and writing for public affairs purposes, often using Associated Press style for public-facing news stories and other public or Army-wide announcements.
Coordinate with other HQDA agencies and offices on public affairs activities and other projects as directed.
Conduct speechwriting and scriptwriting for a senior official for both Army internal and external public ceremonies, speeches and engagements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Successful completion of The Inspector General School is required.
- The employee must maintain IG certification as outlined in AR 20-1, Inspector General Activities and Procedures.
- This position may require temporary duty (TDY) travel up to 20% of the time.
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal Service including development of written products that articulate, interpret, and explain highly complex, potentially controversial, and important agency policies, programs, and research findings; proposing changes to agency editorial and publishing policies and practices; managing the production, distribution, and archiving of publishing projects; and performing line editing reviews and/or proofreading a variety of draft or final reports, documents, and correspondence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12)
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
