The employee will serve as the Public Affairs Specialist at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, in Chicago, IL. The employee will plan and conduct a public affairs program of a large and complex medical facility.

Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Develops new information materials including news releases, fact sheets, brochures, booklets, broadcast spots, etc.
Originates, provides guidance and oversees the preparation of public speeches and statements used by or issued by the medical facility director.
Organizes and coordinates print and broadcast media interviews with staff members.
Oversees all arrangements with the media involving medical facility activities.
Prepares scripts, audio-visual materials and brochures for ceremonies, briefings and orientations.
Develops short- and long-term public affairs action plans.
Establishes cooperative working relationships with the local and regional media.
Monitors and creates social media posts that support strategic messaging.
Responds to media inquiries.
Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
Performs other related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. This experience must have equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes: writing a variety of articles, scripts, news releases and fact sheets; writing and disseminating news releases and feature articles to print and broadcast media representatives; monitoring and creating social media posts; organizing and coordinating print and broadcast media interviews with staff members; and overseeing all arrangements with the media involving medical facility activities.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
