This position is with the Small Business Administration, Office of Field Operations - Region V at one of the listed duty stations. Plans, directs, coordinates, and executes the Small Business Administration's (SBA) marketing, communications, and public affairs for internal and external communications throughout the assigned area.

Chicago, IL = $115,439 - $134,435 Cleveland, OH = $108,003 - $140,408 Columbus, OH = $107,817 - $140,166 Detroit, MI = $114,031 - $148,245 Indianapolis, IN = $104,356 - $135,667 Milwaukee, WI = $108,127 - $140,569 Minneapolis, MN = $112,553 - $146,323 Springfield, IL = $103,409 - $134,435 The Public Affairs Specialist (Regional Communications Director) acts as the agency's primary spokesperson for multiple states, and is responsible for marketing, brand expansion, media outreach, social media, speech writing, and coordination of high-level events throughout the region. Responsible for a broad range of duties that contribute to awareness, utilization, and positive perception of the SBA's programs, products, and initiatives by the public, industry groups, small businesses, trade organizations, and communities. Through the development of a variety of written materials including marketing strategies, communications plans, speeches, press releases, editorials, and social media posts, the incumbent influences usage and acceptance of agency resources that support small businesses and entrepreneurs. Works closely with staff in headquarters and district offices to develop high impact events which support and showcase national initiatives, generate positive and extensive media coverage, and increase SBA market share. Serves as a subject matter expert for district staff on social media, press, communications, marketing, and publicity, and provides regular training on these topics to field staff. This is a non-bargaining unit position. This is not a (drug) testing designated position (TDP).

Requirements

Qualifications

GS-13 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: 1.) Preparing key messages, talking points and public affairs guidance for issues that may generate external or media interest; AND 2.) Leading the development and implementation of communications initiatives that reach a wide variety of audiences; AND 3.) Advising and assisting senior leadership in implementing public relations strategies, planning projects and events; AND 4.) Preparing and conducting relevant training for leadership and public affairs staff. PLEASE BE CLEAR AND SPECIFIC. WE WILL NOT MAKE ASSUMPTIONS REGARDING YOUR EXPERIENCE. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on 07/16/2024.
