Supervisory Visual Information Specialist serves as the Communications Service Chief and operates under the direction of the Assistant Director of the Miami VA Healthcare System. Products and services offered by Communications Service directly and indirectly affect all Veterans, visitors and staff associated with Miami Medical Center & Outpatient Clinics. Media created for presentation and publication affect a widespread audience as they are used at Regional, National, and International Levels.
Duties
Duties include but, are not limited to:
Required to write articles and to do voice-over work.
Major facility customers are Research Service, Patient Education, and Staff Education.
Ensures that all productions, posters, pamphlets, and other publications are compliant with all copyright laws, design standards, and Government Printing Office requirements.
Performs designated administrative and supervisory functions as the Chief, Communication Service in carrying out the responsibilities of their office.
Contributes in developing the service budget requirements in terms of personnel, equipment and supplies, and in preparing justification for new materials, new equipment and staff needs.

Subject matter expert on audio and video systems, lighting systems, A/V equipment installation and operation, production and large format printers, and computer systems used in the creation of audio, video, electronic and print graphics (primarily MAC based).
Maintaining the facility's cable and movie service.
Serving as the Contracting Officer's Representative for the cable/satellite service contract, working with Engineering to oversee the re-wiring of the TV infrastructure for the facility, and troubleshooting outages and service interruptions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Statement: A one year supervisory probation period may be required for this position.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/24/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11.
The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Audiovisual Production Series 1071 --- Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR)
Education: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study-Photography, radio or television production, motion picture production, or other fields related to the position. Or, Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. Or,
Specialized Experience: Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes work directly connected with the production aspects of the field(s) of the position to be filled.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Ensures all productions, posters, pamphlets, and other publications are compliant with all copyright laws, design standards, and Government Printing Office requirements. Performs designated administrative and supervisory functions as the Chief, Communication Service in carrying out the responsibilities of the office. Subject matter expert on audio and video systems, lighting systems, A/V equipment installation and operation, production and large format printers, and computer systems used in the creation of audio, video, electronic and print graphics (primarily MAC based). Planning, coordinating, and directing of short and long range operating activities of a total program designed to provide communication services to an active and diversified healthcare system. Contributes in developing the service budget requirements in terms of personnel, equipment, supplies, as well as preparing justification for new materials, equipment and staff needs.

Physical Requirements: Work requires some physical exertion. Use of personal computers may involve sitting and viewing a computer monitor for long periods. Work in the visual arts requires ability to distinguish shades of color. Creation of displays may require lifting, bending, standing or kneeling for extended periods. Operation of audiovisual presentation equipment may involve lifting and transporting of heavy objects such as television sets, projection screens and record/playback devices.
