The incumbent is an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic assigned to the Operations & Maintenance Section, Facilities Management Service, of the Orlando VA Medical Center, Orlando Florida. The incumbent provides support maintenance and repair on all non-biomedical electronic systems and equipment, including, centralized environmental monitoring, control systems, and energy management systems for the Orlando VA Medical Center and outlying Community-Based Outpatient Clinics
Duties
Responsible for maintenances, repairs, modifications, calibrations and installations of each Industrial Control systems and components as a delegated responsibility of the maintenance and operations section.
Use basic knowledge and skills of the crafts to perform scheduled preventive maintenance inspections, systematic troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs of various sizes and types of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and system components.
Perform vibration analysis of major building service equipment such as circulation pumps, air, handlers, cooling tower fans, medical air compressors, and vacuum pumps etc.
Make recommendations for planned maintenance and perform quality assurance follow up inspections after major repairs and overhauls.
Serves as COR (Contracting Officer Representative) for related projects. Create SOWS, IGCEs, 6500s, for assigned projects, and is responsible for the government credit card for micro-purchases in projects as need it.
Instructs the equipment user and/or the supervisor on the technical problems of installation, repair, and modification of non-medical electronic equipment. Conducts pre-operational system testing to determine consistency with required technical specifications.
Report malfunctions and problems and must determine the scope, extent, and severity after verification. Scheduled maintenance to ensure equipment is operating properly, calibrated properly, and in compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
Required to make independent judgments and decisions regarding methods and procedures for completing assignments that may involve extending the use of conventional test equipment, and improvising fault analysis, repair, and calibration techniques.
Assist in the development of new forms or procedures for HVAC/R controls safety.
Responsible to ensure a variety of safety and environmental regulations comply by reviewing requirements with safety and GEMS office personnel and M&O General Foreman. Make frequent inspections of facilities, shops, and equipment to ensure all meet CEOSH, Life Safety, Joint Commission and OSHA compliance regulations.
Work Schedule: Mon - Fri, Tues - Sat, Sun - Thurs 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm, 11:00 pm - 7:30 am

Incumbent may frequently work in hot, humid, confined spaces around equipment and systems associated with facilities. He/she must climb ladders, bend, crouch, stoop and endure prolonged periods of standing and walking. Incumbent must lift parts and supplies weighing up to 40 lbs. Must be physically fit as work involves lifting, pulling, climbing, crawling, working with hands over head, working in confined areas, and using arm and back muscles. Incumbent must possess ability to be on feet for long periods either standing, walking, working off ladder, or staging materials, and lifting equipment.
Working Conditions:
Incumbent may be required to work in areas of high temperature, cold temperature, constant noise, chemical fumes, dirt, soot, rotating equipment, oil, and grease. Work is performed inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather, wet, cramped locations; is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises, toxic fumes, gases, and acids. Assist in other crafts within the Engineering Services.
Must be aware of safety hazards and know what action should be taken to avoid them. Observe all local and National Safety Codes. Must know and comply with all the safety factors of the various trades to prevent fires and injury to patients and personnel. May be in an environment where it will be required to wear a respirator and disposable clothing including coveralls and cover for head, hands, and feet.
