This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Integrated Service Network 6 (VISN 6), at the Salisbury VA Medical Center (VAMC), in Salisbury, North Carolina, within the assigned Sections of the Surgery Service. This position reports directly to the Service's Administrative Officer. This position primarily serves as the administrative coordinator for the assigned Surgery Sections.
Duties
Major Duties:
Provides administrative and technical support in the organization, planning, implementation, and quality management of the residency/training programs.
Provides administrative tracking and coordination for the management of the training programs.
Ensures that policies for the residency training programs are carried out.
Measures the overall success of the policies in terms of compliance and documentation.
Coordinates the day-to-day processes and flow of the residency program between the office of the Section Chief and the ACOS at the facility, and the program coordinator at Wake Forest University Baptist Health (WFUBH), in order to ensure a well-functioning medical education program.
Works closely with the Research & Education Service in order to coordinate the successful management of all incoming, ongoing, and outgoing functions required of residents, fellows, and medical students.
Maintains essential contacts and serves as an active facilitator of communication and compliance for the Surgery Service relevant to the various aspects of the residency/ training programs, such as encounter completion, relative value unit management, station/facility clearances, and logical and physical accesses.
Serves as the Point of Contact (POC) for all parties concerning program policies and the submission of various reports and surveys to accrediting bodies.
Assists the Administrative Officer (AO) in planning and conducting projects or studies designed to analyze, evaluate, and provide recommendations concerning administrative issues.
Assists the AO in researching and analyzing straightforward problems for the assigned Section. Determines what the pertinent issues are and collects relevant information from a variety of sources.
Provides technical assistance to the assigned Section/Surgical Service employees.
Assists Section employees with telephone or pager issues. Submits all other work orders online.
Coordinates with the Surgery Service's administrative support staff and develops, establishes, and reevaluates the assigned Section's of provider clinic schedules and profiles.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/27/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skills, as appropriate. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
Clerk-Typist, GS-2/4; Office Automation Clerk/ Assistant (any grade); (Typing) (any grade); and (Office Automation) (any grade):
40 words per minute typing speed.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: analyze, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding major aspects of clinic profiles for all assigned VISTA users within the Surgery Service. Knowledge of clinic creation and maintenance sufficient to establish and manage clinic profiles for Surgery specialty clinics. Experience in varied uses and functions of VISTA and CPRS sufficient to provide user support through training, to support applications, and to coordinate with IT Specialists.

Physical Requirements: The work of this position is primarily sedentary. However, the work occasionally requires some short periods of walking, standing, bending, and lifting/carrying light items, such as paper, books, and charts.
