About the Position: As an Operations Officer, you will provide a variety of management services and direction regarding command policy, planning, programs and operations. This position is located at USSOUTHCOM Operations Directorate, and Current Operations Division in Miami, Florida.

Duties

Manages all administrative activities to include human resources, information technology, procurement, financial and property management and internal controls. Exercises critical top-level leadership to formulate plans, communicate and execute plans; AND evaluate results with Division, Directorate and across the Combatant Command (COCOM) Enterprise. Serves as subject matter expert of command's Crisis Action Team and leads, directs, and provides oversight regarding all operations. Conducts research to obtain background information utilizing automated databases, review of previous or ongoing studies, and historical files. Provides managerial, technical, and administrative oversight for all areas of Current Operations to include mobilization and strategic contingency plans. Evaluates performance of subordinate employees and reviews evaluations made by subordinate supervisors of other employees on work and administrative matters; assists with selections of supervisory positions non-supervisory positions. Reviews Security Inspection reports and documentation pertaining to the evaluation of Army current operations, crisis response, and strategic contingency plans. Serves as the technical authority for the Division and provides leadership, guidance and mentoring to all subordinate personnel (military and civilian).

Requirements

  • Must obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • A pre-employment background investigation that includes contact with all references, employers, co-workers, personal associates; AND a review of a driving record, credit history, criminal history, and military service are required.
  • Must possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid regular or official U.S. Passport.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Decision MakingManages and Organizes InformationOrganizational Performance AnalysisPlanning and EvaluatingProblem Solving Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
