You will serve as an ADMINISTRATIVE/TECHNICAL SPECIALIST (Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Specialist) in the Ordnance Assurance & Safety Office of NAVSURFWARCEN IH DIV.
This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The NT-04 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to the GS-11 and GS-12.
Duties
You will be responsible for Occupational Safety and Health programs.
You will conduct surveys, periodic inspections and special studies of industrial operations, trade shop workplaces, ordnance explosives production facilities, and operations where toxic and flammable liquids, gases and chemical materials.
You will evaluate personal protective equipment to determine compliance with regulations.
You will evaluate workplaces to determine environmental health risks, exposure levels and make technical recommendations of findings.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band, NT-03 (GS-09/10 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assessing safety and occupational health program regulations for industrial areas to ensure workplace safety.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
-Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

-Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

-Successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.

-A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
