You will serve as a ADMINISTRATIVE/TECHNICAL SPECIALIST in the Ordnance Assurance & Safety Office of NAVSURFWARCEN IH DIV. The NT-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-13 and GS-14 The salary range shown above represents all of the positions within the band, including high grade positions. This is not a high grade position; therefore, the salary may be limited to a GS-13 Step 10 (currently $145,617).

Duties

You will be Lead Safety and Health Specialist Inspector. You will be responsible for performing and over-seeing the surveys, periodic inspections, and special studies of industrial operations, trade shop workplaces, and ordnance explosives production facilities and operations You will work with other inspectors to provide a thorough and intensive indoctrination, training, verbal and written instructions and close guidance in the basic inspection methods, techniques, theory and knowledge acquired. You will work together with the Occupational Safety and Health Program Manager as well as the Explosive Safety Officer to assure that operations progress without exposing hazards to the personnel performing those operations.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-4 (GS-11/12 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: evaluating working conditions or operating processes, mishaps and hazardous conditions in order to promote the safety and occupational health program to include providing safety education and developing new safety and occupational health measures, procedures or employees.
