About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

The incumbent ensures that subordinate program managers carry out Army Community Service program functions in accordance with governing laws, policies, regulations, and professional standards of service. Oversees Army Community Service Training Programs such as: Enlisted Spouse Training Series improving the quality of life and well-being of members of the community. Establishes and maintains continuing contact with counterparts in related installation elements, such as, Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation; Resiliency Campus; Child, Youth and School Services; Chaplains; and Staff Judge Advocate. Supervises five program managers who manage four core installation Army Community Service programs and one facility manager who manages a readiness center. Conducts comprehensive community needs assessment on an annual basis to identify family support program requirements of the community.

  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Basic Requirement for Soldier and Family Readiness Manager: A bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or a degree in a related discipline appropriate to the position such as Psychology, Sociology, or Social Work (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR A combination of education and experience that provided me with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates that I have acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, you must also meet the qualification requirement listed below: Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1. Monitoring program functions and efficiency. 2. Ensuring efficient use of funds and resources. 3. Conducting needs assessments to identify support needed in the community. 4. Overseeing agency training programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
