The incumbent serves as Early Psychosis Intervention Coordination (EPIC) Coordinator and has been delegated program coordination responsibility for this program as professionally appropriate. The incumbent is assigned to the MHICM Program and provides intensive case management services for seriously mentally ill (SMI) Veterans.

The EPIC/ MHICM Social Worker provides clinical services to promote sustained community stability and address issues related to chronic mental illness and other complex/diverse psychosocial problems.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Provides consultation, negotiation and monitoring of a major specialty area.
Develops and coordinates an ad hoc EPIC clinical care team from different clinical programs to advise on the therapeutic and psychosocial needs of individual Veterans identified as experiencing early psychosis.
Develops and updates annually a VA medical facility-level plan for delivery of services to Veterans with early psychosis.
Create an electronic referral system to the EPIC (i.e., electronic health record consult template) for facilitating identification of patients.
Utilizes analytics, including dashboards identifying Veterans with a high likelihood of early psychosis.
Collaborates with Department of Defense (DoD) to develop VA medical facility-level referral relationships of active Service members with early psychosis to facilitate the transition between DoD and VHA health care.
Responsible for program's needs such as material, equipment, and facilities needed to complete work.
Oversees the daily operation of the program, develop policies and procedures for EPIC operation, and prepare reports and statistics for facility, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN), and national use.
Advises Mental Health Leadership on the establishment of program goals, priorities, and major work schedules, develops short/long-rang staffing and equipment requirements.
Monitors the efficiency, effectiveness, timeliness, and quality of services offered with the EPIC program.
Independently conducts intake and needs assessment of Veterans and their significant others.
Develops comprehensive treatment plans with the Veteran that address the symptoms of SMI and other co-occurring disorders within a recovery model framework.
Provides intensive case management, individual, group and family treatment, to include early interventions and supportive follow-up to ensure stability.
Participates in policy making, goal setting, and treatment service planning discussions with other members of MHICM and MH programs.
Maintains data and statistical compilations to comply with MHICM, JCAHO, VA and medical center policy and procedures.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education - Candidates must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.
Licensure - Social workers at the GS-12 must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations:
GS-12 Level: Social Worker (Program Coordinators) must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Must have specialized knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Knowledge of community resources, Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures to formulate a treatment plan.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12.
