This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Program Risk Management Branch (PRMB), Washington, DC.
In this position, you will be responsible for developing and monitoring computer security policies and procedures for the Agency covering physical security, computer hardware, software, communications, and operating systems both in the local network (LAN) and cloud environment.
Duties
Analyzes, reviews, documents, and ensures compliance to all physical and computer security policies from the Department, laws, and Presidential initiatives.
Develops and monitors computer risk assessment plans for all critical systems.
Participates in the investigation of computer security breaches or incident reports, assessing the violations to determine if damage was done, and if remedial action should be taken.
Conducts computer security studies, analysis, or reviews to assure the appropriate level of safeguards exist to protect against perceived threats.
Assists in evaluations of specifications for software and systems to ensure they comply with NASS's computer security standards.
Serves as a member of the Agency technical review team providing LAN and Cloud environments security expertise.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Time in grade: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-13 grade level for consideration for the GS-14 grade level).
Basic Requirements
Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-14 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-13 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assessing IT security risks; working on operating system platforms in support of cybersecurity-related functions; assisting in the investigation of cybersecurity incidents; developing and monitoring computer security policies and procedures for an organization; and operating systems both in the local network (LAN) and cloud environment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
