About the Position: As an Administrative Officer, you will oversee command operations, programs, investigations, and analysis; AND provide administrative support and updated policies and regulations to organization. This position is located at USSOUTHCOM
Exercises & Coalition Affairs Directorate in Miami, Florida.
Duties
Maintains liaison with action officers and support staff members in support of program efforts/evaluations, investigations, analysis, and high priority actions.
Provides guidance, solves problems, assigns priorities, and makes decisions based on a comprehensive knowledge of programs, policies, events, officials, and taskers affecting the mission and operations of the organization.
Tracks and assists in the coordination of all official travel and leave personnel; AND serves as one of the reviewing and/or approval authorities for the DTS system.
Manages awards program and serves as the administrative support POC for medal submissions through the command Awards System; AND maintains files in accordance with Army and SOUTHCOM regulations and guidelines.
Tracks Civil Service personnel timecards in the Defense Civilian Payroll System and serves as the program certifying officials.
Prepares guidance and instruction regarding policy and procedure related to travel, training, overtime, supply and other accounts.
Disseminates policies and regulations to organization ensuring up to date information is provided.
Assigns taskings to appropriate divisions, establishes internal suspense dates, tracks taskings, determines when extensions are appropriate, and either grants extensions within the Directorate’s authority, or justifies them to external offices.
Maintains daily and long term calendars for the Director and Deputy Director, and schedules meetings to support command obligations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- A pre-employment background investigation which may include contact with references, employers, co-workers, personal associates, and a review of your driving record, credit history, criminal history, and military service are required.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes providing administrative support and oversight regarding command operations, exercises, and program efforts to include high priority actions.
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. [remove LL.M., if unrelated] in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
