About the Position: This position is a Secretary (OA), GS-7 for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) Office of the Provost located on the Presidio of Monterey.

Duties

Prepare a wide variety of recurring and nonrecurring personal and executive correspondence, reports and other documents from information obtained from the staff, files and other sources. Review and processes incoming and outgoing correspondence, reports and other materials submitted for the Assistant Commandants signature. Receive telephone calls, greet visitors and ascertain the nature of the calls or visits, screening those that can be handled without supervisor's help. Maintain supervisor's calendar, coordinate meeting arrangements and schedule meetings and/or conferences including those involving staff from outside the immediate office. Independently note and follow up on commitments made at meetings and conferences by staff members. Perform other clerical and administrative work in support of the office/organization.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) preparing a wide variety of recurring and nonrecurring personal and executive correspondence, reports, and other documents from information obtained from the staff, files, and other sources; AND (2) Reviewing and processing incoming and outgoing correspondence, reports, and other materials submitted for signature; AND (3) Receiving telephone calls, greeting visitors and ascertains the nature of the calls or visits, screening those that can be handled without supervisors help; AND (4) Maintains supervisors' calendar, coordinates meeting arrangements, and schedules meetings and/or conferences including those involving staff from outside the immediate office. NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). To be referred, applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and qualification requirements within 30 days from the date the referral list is issued.
